hove’s first record on light of other days gets a second pressing. the first pressing was self-distributed and only 150 copies were made. enjoy! hove’s debut ep is full of fuzzy melodies fused with shimmering arpeggios and reduced cosmic beats. produced at the light of other days headquarters in the heart of zurich, hove developed his sound out of various live-jams, which he recorded onto a tascam cassette recorder. these recordings alongside numerous field recordings build the foundation of the ep journey to arendal. influenced by the sound aesthetic of early electronic producers from the 80’s and 90’s, as well as contemporary house, disco or techno, hove’s music always has a certain kind of warmth to it. dusty, shuffling grooves meet woozy guitar chords while crystal clear synth melodies are paired with field recordings of rivers, birds or nocturnal city atmospheres. journey to arendal is out on january 29th, 2016 on light of other days.

as the timing appears to be right while summer just made it’s entrance it seemed only appropriate for the release of another single.
the idea behind the release was conceived when digging for records through paris while touring a couple of years ago during a conversation with a vinyl monger discussing 70’s pop-funk pakistani composers.
since the inspiration as well as the records sampled for both of the tracks were picked up from the “city of lights” it seemed only appropriate for mononome to finally collaborate with parisian label and long-time friends stillmuzik for a release.
“loralai” evolves around a feel-good uptempo groove emphasizing on the sample while “besima” is based mainly on mononome’s characteristic drum sounds, leaving an essence of psychedelia in the background.

italian sound artist giulio aldinucci drops his 2nd album on karl: “disappearing in a mirror” is again a truly masterfully composed and sound-designed ambient masterpiece and a more than worthy follow-up to the critically acclaimed “borders and ruins” which made it onto several year’s best lists for 2017.

so gerd and philipp were due to play xoyo one saturday night and the club is 6 minutes from my studio so i suggested we go there first to make tunes for a few hours. we made 2 songs that night and one of them is ‘reach out’. gerd did the drums on my 808, philipp wrote the beautiful lead part on my obxa and i did the bass in my cs80. i added the words a couple of weeks later, they are inspired by leonard cohen’s letter to his muse marianne ihlen on her deathbed. skinny pelembe corrals together a cast of talented friends for his new ep. it’s his most ambitious release to date, boasting a different group or artist featuring on each of its tracks, each of them an act he’s met through music or through linking with brownswood’s celebrated talent development programme future bubblers two years ago. across its four entries, he bridges hip-hop, psych-rock and jazz-influenced tangents, cutting out a diverse cross-section of the city’s music scene. it’s a document of the connections he’s made as an artist, and is the most collaborative project he’s worked on so far. the title of the ep comes from some advice which skinny noted to himself on an old notebook. each of its songs started as a rough idea which was then fleshed out and re-imagined with his collaborators.

the second dimension ep is the first release of the label and contains four hybrid jams which are between the legacy of dutch west coast, & 90s house. main influences are the hacker, old vitalic, legowelt and bicep. all tracks are made for the floor and dj-friendly - but the last track “sehnsucht” which means “desire” is a refreshing ambient drifter with broken hard-hitting drums and also for easy listeing.
8factor is a german music project from leipzig - he is producing electronic music for 8 years without making official releases. tommy tricker was a former alias which was used for lo-fi boombap instrumentals. one of his most famous instrumantals is called “kommunistische tummulte” which was released on red tape. he is also a big fan of propellerheads software “reason”. most of his tracks contains self-programmed malstrom-synth-textures or processed samples.

nice price deal !!! 199x is a new record label from reykjavík, iceland but based in copenhagen, denmark focusing on releasing electronic music by icelandic and international artists. each release is pressed on high quality 180g vinyl limited to 500 copies, also available digitally. each album cover has hand drawn artwork by m. kristensen. the first release on 199x is from a musician born in zürich, switzerland who s name is mateo hurtado. for the last 2 years hurtado has been posting tracks and live improvisations on youtube and soundcloud made with his modular and hardware gear as well playing all over europe. this ep by hurtado includes four tracks recorded live with heavy bass, dark-atmospheric repetitive sounds that make the perfect experimental ambient techno with minimal post processing.

too $hort’s legendary 1992 effort “shorty the pimp” is back in effect on vinyl thanks to the hip hop preservationist at get on down. though many don’t consider this to be one of too $hort’s strongest releases, the project did move well over 80.000 in its first week of release landing at number 6 on the billboard top 200. taking the title from the incredibly rare 1973 blaxploitation film, too $hort does what he does best on shorty the pimp: funk beats, oastful braggadocio, a few conscious rhymes and layers of straight up pimp talk. the lyrical content can certainly be considered comical and entertaining. “shorty the pimp” is also a stand out project for producer ant banks who did many of the beats for the project, his first works with too $hort with many more to follow over the next decade. oddly enough, one of the best comments on “shorty the pimp” comes from a random guy on the internet who commented on his experience listening to the release, “i ran my car into a tree after listening to ‘it don’t stop’ definitely made for cars with the booming systems!”
